Alaska Real Estate Agent / Broker Continuing Education Requirements
Requirements Overview
The Alaska Real Estate Commission requires 20 hours of continuing education per biennial renewal cycle for both salespersons and brokers. Of these, 8 hours must be in Designated Continuing Education (DCE) topics chosen by the Commission, which change each biennium. For the 2024-2026 cycle, DCE topics are Environmental Issues & Land Use, Fair Housing & Property Management, Required Licensee Disclosures, and Counseling Consumers — each at 2 hours.
The remaining 12 hours are Elective Continuing Education (ECE), which must still meet the subject matter requirements in 12 AAC 64.500(a). Students may not receive credit for more than 10 hours of instruction in a single day. Out-of-state courses from nationally recognized providers may be accepted by submitting form #08-4533.
New licensees must also complete 30 hours of post-licensing education within one year of initial licensure, which is separate from CE. Licensees licensed less than 90 days before expiration are exempt from CE for that renewal period.

Tips for Alaska Real Estate Agents
- Check the Commission's website each biennium for updated DCE topics — they change every cycle, so last period's courses won't satisfy the current requirement.
- If you hold an out-of-state license, submit form #08-4533 to request CE credit for nationally recognized provider courses taken elsewhere.
- Plan your coursework early — there is no grace period to practice on a lapsed license after January 31 of even-numbered years.
- Spread your hours over both years of the cycle; the 10-hour daily cap means you cannot cram all 20 hours into two days.
