Connecticut has one of the lightest CE requirements in the country: just 2 contact hours every 6 years, focused exclusively on PTSD, suicide risk, depression, and grief screening. The license itself renews annually, but CE compliance is only checked on a 6-year cycle.

Requirements Overview

Connecticut's CE requirement for registered nurses is minimal compared to most states. RNs must complete just 2 contact hours on PTSD, suicide risk, depression and grief screening, and suicide prevention — and this obligation recurs only once every 6 years. The requirement took effect for renewals after January 1, 2022.

Despite this light CE load, the license itself renews annually by the last day of the nurse's birth month, with a renewal fee of approximately $110. CE compliance is attested during the online renewal process through the Connecticut eLicense portal.

Courses must come from recognized providers such as ANCC-accredited organizations, the Connecticut Nurses Association, accredited educational institutions, or specialty nursing societies. Nurses must retain CE records for at least 3 years and produce them within 45 days if requested by the Department of Public Health.
