Requirements Overview

The Kansas State Board of Technical Professions (KSBTP) regulates professional land surveyors and sets continuing education under the Kansas Administrative Regulations, Article 14. Every surveyor must complete 30 CEUs (one CEU equals one contact hour) during the two-year period immediately before the biennial renewal date. There is no per-year minimum — the 30 CEUs are measured across the full cycle.

Within that total, at least 24 of the 30 CEUs must address health, safety, property, and welfare (HSPW), and surveyors have an added subject rule: at least 2 CEUs must be preapproved activity on the Kansas minimum standards for boundary surveys (K.A.R. 66-12-1(b)). Excess hours help next time — up to 15 HSPW CEUs carry forward into the following renewal period. Self-study is capped at 5 CEUs per period.
